High Contrast Dark

What it does

High Contrast Dark is a Next Experience theme: maximum legibility on black: white text, yellow focus, strong edges.

Each person chooses it for themselves, in Preferences > Theme, and it restyles Next Experience pages - including the classic lists and forms opened inside them - from the header to the focus ring. Installing it changes nobody's screen until they choose it.

Readable, and measured

Every text, field edge, button, link, alert and focus ring color is checked against its WCAG 2.1 AA minimum. The test suite that ships with it measures 31 of those pairs through the colors actually installed on your instance, so a damaged install cannot pass.

Built for people who need more contrast

Body text is at 21:1, the most two colors can reach. Secondary text is at 15.91:1 and links at 13.17:1. Of the 31 pairs its suite measures, the lowest is the header search box's text at 6.69:1, still well past the 4.5:1 that WCAG 2.1 AA asks. Field and button edges are 2px, and the focus ring is a color nothing else on the page uses.

It is a theme, not an accessibility certification: it sets the colors Next Experience draws with, and pages that draw their own colors keep them.

Beside your other themes

It is one theme in an application of its own. It installs next to any other theme and keeps its own card in the same place. Removing it returns anyone using it to the default theme and leaves every other theme, and the people on them, alone.

What it will not do

It ships no code. No script, table, page, role, property or scheduled job - nothing but the theme's own records and its test suite.

It changes nobody's choice. Each person picks their own theme, and the instance's default stays the default.
